Director of Art Insurance at Richard Thompson Insurance Brokers Ltd
Sandy has 22 years’ experience in art insurance. After graduating in Theology from Durham University he joined the principal firm of fine art underwriters at Lloyd’s of London, before becoming an insurance broker in 1997. He specializes in insurance for all types of private and commercial fine art risks.
For a number of years he has been a visiting lecturer on the MA Course for Gallery Studies at Essex University and also on the MA Course for Art Market Professional Practice at Kingston University. He has instructed on insurance and risk management to institutions and associations throughout the UK.
He has a personal interest in art and antiques and had hands-on experience working for a Bond Street dealer, a major London auction house and a national museum before starting in the insurance industry. In 2011 he demonstrated some of his personal knowledge when winning the BBC’s ‘Antiques Master’ series with a chosen specialized subject of “British Commemorative Antiques 1714-1901”.
He is a member of the Walpole Society, the Oriental Ceramics Society and last year, in his own time, he guest-curated “Peace Breaks Out! London & Paris in the Summer of 1814” at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London.
