Clinton graduated Hobart College, Geneva, NY in 1971 with a BA in French
literature and then attended London College of Furniture (1972-75).
He founded and ran English Antique Furniture Newsletter, 1976-1980 and then became associate editor Art and Auction 1984-2010.
In 1981, he founded Clinton Howell Antiques in Pound Ridge NY, and then moved to New York City in 1992 selling to museums, including the V & A Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of New York.
He is now a private dealer in New York City and was elected President of the Art and Antique Dealers League of America in 2011 and President of CINOA in 2016.
