Matthew is Global CEO of the International Fine Art Auctioneers, Bonhams. Based in New York and London, he is responsible for raising the company’s profile and business performance worldwide.
Since joining Bonhams in 1989 as a Jewellery specialist, Matthew has held several senior managerial posts in the company, including that of Group Jewellery Director, a position he maintains in addition to his global CEO role.
As an auctioneer of more than 30 years standing, Matthew has overseen many famous sales, including the 5.30 carat fancy deep-blue diamond which sold for £6.2 million in 2013, the current world record price per carat for a deep-blue diamond sold at auction. He was also the auctioneer for the record-breaking sale of Frank Auerbach’s E.O.W. on her Blue Eiderdown V that sold at Bonhams’ flagship HQ in New Bond Street, London for more than £2 million in 2016.

The sale of ‘The Jewels from the Personal Collection of Princess Salimah Aga Khan’ which sold for CHF 31,004,513 million in Geneva in November 1995.
The sale of ‘The Bird of Paradise Collection’ which sold for CHF 13 million in Geneva in 1997.
The sale of ‘Exceptional Jewellery of Francoise Hermann’ which sold at Bonhams in 2004 in Los Angeles for $6.2 million.
Matthew is married with four children and lives in New York.
